Today, 7th June marks the birthday of Ekta Kapoor, the producer of wide range of content from daily soaps to bold films. As she turns a year older today, at a Hindustan Times interview she says that she is often blamed for making misogynist and regressive kind of drama, and when she actually sees her own work she wonders why anyone would watch those.
During a fun section of the interview, she happens to quote “Who watches this?” referring to her own production shows and daily soaps. When asked if she would like to name the show, she says that there are way too many of the kind.
She revealed her obsession with some of the characters in her shows, namely Rajeev Khandelwal who plays the brooding character of Sujal in “Kahiin Toh Hoga”
Ekta Kapoor has gone from producing daily soaps filled with drama to different kind of content for different platforms including the OTT media. Her main thought-process behind producing a variety of content is that she never judges anyone. Perhaps that’s the reason behind shows like “Naagin” and bold films like “Lipstick Under My Burkha”.
In 2019, Ekta welcomed her son, Ravie via surrogacy. In her defense, she says that she had always been a non-conformist and there is no way she would conform to a marriage just for the sake of it, which is why she decided on having the baby through surrogacy.
Perhaps, her unconventional and non-conformist attitude throws light on her choice of production as well.
