Its series a funding round led by Sequoia Capital India, Skillmatics which is direct to consumer tech startup developing educational products and games for children has raised $6 million with participation from the Jalaj Dani family office and existing angel investors.
With a primary focus on North America and India Skillmatics is present across 15 countries and with more than 15,000 retail stores. Core skills in math, language, science and logic through gamification and interactivity are said to be inculcated by the products and games developed by the company.
Across online and offline retail, being available at Walmart along with Target and other multi-brand retail outlets, the funds raised shall be used to strengthen the startup’s presence in the United States.
Along with expanding product offerings to target newer age groups and entering new product categories, the company has said to hire cross-product design, technology, marketing, and data analytics roles with fresh funding. Products in learning resources, educational games and STEM toys are being currently offered by the company.
Their educational toys being priced between ₹299 and ₹999, the company considers affordability to be its competitive edge while it claims to have sold over 3 million products to date. To achieve this price point, using small along with large suppliers, the company has set up its manufacturing process across 25 factories in India. Including the leading toys retailer Hamley’s, the company’s products have a retail shelf presence at over 3000 stores in India
