Tokyo Olympics: Indian boxer Ashish Kumar loses 5-0 against Erbieke Touheta

In the ongoing men’s boxing match in the ring of the Tokyo Olympics, In the middleweight category of 75 kg, India’s Ashish Kumar lost in the round of 32. He was defeated 5-0 by China’s Erbieke Touheta.

Ashish Kumar is the third Indian boxer to be out of the medal race in men’s boxing. Before him, Vikas Krishnan and Manish have also been out after losing their match. For the first time after Vijender Singh, an Indian boxer was representing India in the middleweight category. But, Ashish stayed away from repeating Vijender’s success.

Ashish Kumar, playing his first Olympics, could not live up to the expectations of the judges even once in the ring of Tokyo. In all three rounds, the decision of the five judges came against him.

Although, after losing the first round, he showed his dominance in the second round but, by doing so he once again failed to impress the judges. After this, the third round once again went for the Chinese boxer. Chinese boxer Erbieke Touheta will now compete with the Brazilian boxer.

Ashish won the silver medal in the Asian Amateur Boxing Championship in the year 2019. In 2020, he reached the semi-finals of the Boxing Olympic Qualification Tournament and by doing so secured a ticket to Tokyo.
