Aamir Khan Shares Stories Behind Rejecting Two Bollywood Blockbusters

At a press event in Mumbai on Sunday, actor Aamir Khan opened up about some of the major films he turned down during his career. The event was the trailer launch of Aamir Khan: Cinema Ka Jadugar, a festival celebrating his work, which will begin on March 14.

When asked if he regrets rejecting any films, Aamir mentioned two big projects – Darr and Bajrangi Bhaijaan. He revealed that he was initially working on Darr, but decided to leave the film for personal reasons, not creative ones. Reflecting on his decision, he said, “I feel it worked out for the best. The tone that Yash Chopra wanted suited Shah Rukh Khan better. If I had done it, the film would have been completely different.”

Aamir also spoke about Bajrangi Bhaijaan. He recalled that after hearing the script, he immediately felt that Salman Khan would be a better fit for the role. “I told the writer to approach Salman Khan. Although the writer did not directly go to him, he eventually connected with director Kabir Khan, who then took the project to Salman,” he explained.

Both films became major successes. Darr (1993) was a turning point for Shah Rukh Khan, establishing him as a versatile actor. Meanwhile, Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015) was a blockbuster hit, loved by audiences for its emotional storyline and Salman Khan’s performance.Aamir concluded by saying he does not regret his decisions, as the films turned out well with the actors who eventually took the roles.
