Abhijeet Bhattacharya talks about power of his songs and says his songs made Akshay a star

Singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya who has given the industry many hit songs says his songs were responsible for making a star out of many actors such as Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty.

Bollywood singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya has been the voice behind many hits songs of the 90s like Main Koi Aisa Geet Gaaon, Zara Sa Jhoom Lu Main, among others. Well-known for his melodious rendition recently, during a Facebook Live session talked about how his songs are to be credited for who Akshay Kumar has become today.

In a conversation with India.com, Abhijeet said how his songs turned a few actors into stars. the singer added that when Akshay was launched in the industry, he was known as ‘Gareebo Ka Mithun Chakraborty'(Poor man’s Mithun Chakraborty) like how the veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty was known as ‘Gareebo Ka Amitabh Bachchan.'(Poor man’s Amitabh Bachchan)

In the interview with India.com, the singer said, “I am made to sing only for the stars, not for the actors. No matter how good I sing, if the person is not a star, it isn’t worth anything. There’s Shah Rukh Khan on one side and there’s Suniel Shetty on the other. Now, SRK is a star. He has a class when he speaks and Suniel has got this rough and tough appeal attached to him. Every time someone decided to curate a song for Suniel, it had to be aggressive and wild. I sang for both Suniel and SRK. All my songs picturised on both the actors were a hit.”

“My music made Akshay Kumar a star. When he was launched, he wasn’t a star. He was earlier known as ‘Gareebo Ka Mithun Chakraborty’ (Poor man’s Mithun Chakraborty) like how Mithun was known as ‘Gareebo Ka Amitabh Bachchan’(Poor man’s Amitabh Bachchan). Music is so powerful that it can turn an actor into a star whether it’s Dev Anand, Raj Kapoor, or Rajesh Khanna. Akshay became a star after Khiladi (1992 film for which Abhijeet had sung many popular songs including Waada Raha Sanam), and all his movies were titled as Khiladi later. My voice has suited them all. These are the actors who weren’t stars before but my songs turned them into stars,” he concluded.

However, this is not the first time the singer is facing controversies. Earlier, Twitter had suspended the singers account as he posted a series of offensive tweets, especially against women. Recently, the singer also made an appearance on Indian Idol 12 as a guest judge where later, he slammed the reality show judges for being inexperienced.
