Aditya Dhar has issued a strong clarification after a controversial image linked to Dhurandhar: The Revenge went viral online. The filmmaker stated that visuals showing Ranveer Singh’s character smoking while wearing a turban are “completely untrue” and have been digitally altered to mislead viewers.
The statement comes amid growing discussion online and even a police complaint filed over the image. Dhar explained that the visuals in question were created by manipulating official promotional material using artificial intelligence, calling it a deliberate attempt to spread misinformation and create unnecessary controversy.
Emphasising his stance, Dhar said the film has been made with full respect towards the Sikh community, and every scene has been handled with care and responsibility. He stressed that any suggestion otherwise through edited or morphed content is both misleading and harmful.
The issue also drew attention after objections were raised by a Mumbai-based Sikh organisation regarding certain scenes and the viral image. Actor R. Madhavan, who is part of the film, had earlier clarified that in a scene involving religious verses, his character ensures the cigarette is put out beforehand, addressing concerns around sensitivity.
Urging audiences to rely only on verified content, Dhar asked viewers not to be influenced by false narratives circulating online. Despite the controversy, Dhurandhar: The Revenge continues its strong performance at the box office, having already crossed the ₹900 crore mark globally since its release on March 19.
