Air India Mumbai-New York Flight Redirected to Delhi Due to Bomb Threat

An Air India flight from Mumbai to New York was diverted to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport early Monday following a bomb threat, according to reports by news agency PTI. The flight, AI119, which took off around 2 am, was immediately redirected to Delhi after Mumbai airport authorities received a threat message on X.

Upon receiving the threat, security agencies in Delhi were alerted, and the decision to divert the aircraft was swiftly made. The plane is currently grounded at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, where safety protocols are being strictly followed to ensure the well-being of all passengers and crew.

A senior police officer confirmed to PTI that the aircraft remains stationed at the airport, and a thorough security check is underway. “All standard safety protocols are being diligently followed to ensure the safety of the passengers and crew on board,” the officer stated.

In an official statement, an Air India spokesperson said, “Flight AI119 operating Mumbai to JFK on October 14 received a specific security alert and on instructions of the government’s security regulatory committee was diverted to Delhi.”

The airline confirmed that all passengers have safely disembarked and are currently at the Delhi airport terminal. “Our ground team is working to minimize the inconvenience caused to our guests by this unexpected disruption. Air India prioritizes the safety and security of its passengers and crew above all else,” the spokesperson added. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
