Archana Puran Singh has reflected on the unexpected downside of her television success, revealing that her popular stint on The Kapil Sharma Show came at the cost of her film career. In a recent interview with News18, the veteran actor shared how the demanding schedule of the comedy show gradually reduced her presence on the big screen.
Having joined the show in 2019 after stepping in for Navjot Singh Sidhu, Archana quickly became a familiar face for audiences. However, the commitment required for regular shoots left her with little flexibility to take up film projects. She revealed that she had to decline several offers, including an international assignment that required her to travel for an extended period. Over time, these refusals led to fewer opportunities coming her way.
Archana also spoke about being typecast in the industry, expressing concern that filmmakers often fail to see her beyond her comic image. She said that despite her efforts, she is still perceived as someone known primarily for her on-screen laughter rather than her acting abilities.
The actor recently appeared in Toaster, marking her second collaboration with Rajkummar Rao, who also serves as the film’s producer. She shared that the opportunity came after he noticed her work in their earlier project together, which helped bring her back into the spotlight.
Looking back at her journey, Archana noted that while she started with strong roles, including her debut opposite Naseeruddin Shah, her later work in comedy-driven films shaped her current image. She now hopes for more diverse roles ahead.
