Arnab Goswami named in the TRP scam chargesheet by Mumbai police

The charge-sheet in the Television Rating Points (TRP) scam case was submitted on Tuesday by the Mumbai Police in which Arnab Goswami, the Editor-in-chief of Republic TV was named as an accused.

Along with him 1800-page second supplementary charge sheet included, four others from ARG Outlier Media the parent company, that owns Republic TV were named. They are, COO Priya Mukherjee, Shivendu Mulelkar, and Shiva Sundaram, as per Live Law reports.

Nine months ago, an FIR about the case was registered after Param Bir Singh, the former Mumbai Police Commissioner accused the channel of being included in the scam.

On October 8, 2020, the former Mumbai Police Commissioner mentioned that a TRP racket had been caught in which Republic TV, Box Cinema, and Fakt Marathi were involved. He suspected that the channels were manipulating TRPs by avowedly paying Partho Dasgupta the previous chief executive officer (CEO) of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) in the form of bribes, to increase their viewership numbers.

The TRP scam came to public knowledge last year when the Broadcast Audience Research Council filed a charge through the Hansa Research Group claiming that certain TV channels were manipulating TRP numbers.

As of yet, the Mumbai Police have arrested 13 people in association with the case, which includes the former COO of BARC.
