Reports from England suggest that Aston Villa has made a £25 million bid for attacking midfielder Emile Smith Rowe. But this offer for the 20-year old has been rejected by Arsenal.
A product of Arsenal’s Hale End academy, Smith Rowe broke into their first team last December and established himself as an influential presence in one of the creative attacking-midfield roles. He helped turn around a massive slump in Arsenal’s performances with his energetic off-the-ball running coupled with secondary playmaking. His electric form has reportedly garnered the interest of clubs in England and Spain.
Aston Villa has acted upon their interest in the playmaking midfielder as they bid £25 million for the England Under-21 player. But Arsenal has rejected this bid as they look to offer fresh terms to Smith Rowe and tie him down to a new long-term deal at the club. Arsenal has made it clear that they are not looking to sell Smith Rowe and will not entertain any offers for the Englishman.
Arsenal and Aston Villa were involved in a bidding war for Norwich City’s star man and 24-year old attacking midfielder Emiliano Buendia. Buendia eventually signed on a permanent transfer to Aston Villa as Arsenal chose not to increase their offer of £30 million for the player. Arsenal has other reported targets on their list for an attacking midfielder which include Leicester City’s James Maddison and Real Madrid’s Martin Odegaard who spent the second half of the 2020/21 season on loan at the north London club.
Emile Smith Rowe scored 4 goals and racked up 8 assists in 33 appearances for Arsenal in the 2020/21 campaign.
