Australian Parliament passes final amendment on pay for news law

On Thursday, Australian Parliament passed the final amendments on the law which enforces tech giants like Google and Facebook to pay for the news and so that News Media Bargaining Code could be agreed between Josh Frydenberg – Treasurer and CEO of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg.

According to Facebook VP the newly agreed partnership deal allows Facebook to choose from which publisher it wants to support including small and local businesses. Facebook has also agreed to lift the ban in return for the recent changes on Australian accessing and sharing news on its platform.

Whereas Google already had agreed to the terms of Australian news businesses with News Corp. and Seven West Media. The changes made in the agreement between Frydenberg and Facebook would give digital platforms a months notice before they are taken under the code of the proposed amendments.

This move also gives opportunity to media houses to broke deals or agreement before they are forcefully entered into a arbitration biding agreement.
