
On Friday, veteran actor Deb Mukherjee passed away at the age of 83. Zoom was informed by his representative that he passed away on Friday morning from age-related illnesses. Deb, a member of the well-known Samarth-Mukherjee family, was the father-in-law of Ashutosh Gowariker and the father of director Ayan Mukerji.
The funeral service for Deb Mukherjee is scheduled for March 14 at 4 p.m. at the Pawan Hans Crematorium in Juhu. Many members of his extended family, including Kajol and Ajay Devgn, Rani Mukerji, Tanuja, Tanissha, and Aditya Chopra, are reportedly expected to attend the burial. The burial is also anticipated to be attended by Ayan Mukerji’s friends, including Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Sidharth Malhotra, Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone, and Ranbir Kapoor.
Deb Mukherjee was born in 1941 in Kanpur into a distinguished and prosperous family of filmmakers. Ashok Kumar, Anup Kumar, and Kishore Kumar had only one sister, Satidevi, who was his mother. Among his siblings were the well-known actor Joy Mukherjee and the filmmaker Shomu Mukherjee, who wed Bollywood actress Tanuja. Kajol and Rani Mukerji are his nieces.
Deb Mukherjee had two marriages. His first marriage’s daughter, Sunita, is wed to director Ashutosh Gowariker. His second marriage produced a son named Ayan. In the 1960s, the actor started off in little parts in films like Tu Hi Meri Zindagi and Abhinetri.
Even though he kept performing and appeared in popular films like Do Aankhen and Baton Baton Mein, Deb found it difficult to match his brother Joy’s on-screen achievements. He transitioned to supporting parts in films like King Uncle and Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander later in his career. His final on-screen appearance occurred in 2009 during a cameo in Vishal Bhardwaj’s Kaminey.
