Badlapur Case: Bombay High Court cancels Maharashtra Bandh tomorrow

On Friday, The Bombay High Court banned any political party or individual from advocating for a Maharashtra Bandh. This implies that on Saturday, August 24, there cannot be a bandh in Maharashtra by the MVA or any other political parties.

Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya led a Bombay High Court panel that heard arguments regarding the Maharashtra Bandh on Friday. The bench declared that the court had cancel the political parties from carrying out their “Maharashtra Bandh.” In response to the alleged sexual assault of two young girls at a school in Badlapur, Thane district. The parents of the girls were allegedly forced to wait at the Badlapur police station for 11 hours before the officers acknowledged their concerns, as per the opposition parties, including the MVA.

Earlier today, Uddhav Thackeray threatened to take the opposition to the streets if the cases against people who had demonstrated in Badlapur over the alleged sexual assault of two kindergarten girls were not withdrawn. Thackeray urged people of all castes and religions to take part in the August 24, Bandh, saying it is not political but rather a protest against perverts. The opposition party Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) called for the strike. Uddhav Thackeray quoted, “Arrests are still taking place in Badlapur. The cases against the protesters must be withdrawn or else we have to hit the streets.”
