Dutch- Spanish coach Jordi Cruyff joins Joan Laporta’s Barcelona for the strategic role and will leave the position as a head coach of Shenzhen FC, the Chinese Super League club to return to the Camp Nou. He is all set to resign from the Chinese league side on August 1.
The Dutchman has made 54 appearances for Barcelona’s 1st team. He has worked as a sporting director and has managed different clubs after he retired as a player.
He spent 6 years at Barcelona as a player and has played for Manchester United.
Cruyff’s late father Johan Cruyff was among one of Barca’s best players. He won them their first European Cup in 1992, as a revolutionary coach. The Catalonians have built his statue outside their stadium. They also have named their youth team’s stadium after the three times Ballon d’Or winner.
FC Barcelona has officially announced on their website and official pages about the joining. Cruyff has also made it ceremonial from his account.
“For me, it’s like coming home, it’s a pride to be here. The motivation is enormous” – Jordi Cruyff
“Jordi Cruyff will join the football department of the club and form part of the new organisational structure as of August 1. Cruyff, who is a former player of Barca’s youth team and also in its first team from 1993 to 1996, returns in the strategic role.”
“His arrival has been possible thanks to the collaboration of the Chinese team, Shenzhen FC,” says FC Barcelona.
