Beetlejuice 2 DP shares details on the ‘brilliant story’ of Jenna Ortega’s sequel

Haris Zambarloukos, the director of photography (DP) for Beetlejuice 2, has recently shed some light on the next movie, but the revelations have left fans of the original movie worried.

The second installment of Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice, starring returning stars Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara, as well as new faces Jenna Ortega, Monica Bellucci, Willem Dafoe, and Justin Theroux, will be released on September 6, 2024. Zambarloukos hinted at what audiences might expect from the highly anticipated sequel in a recent interview with The Direct.

When comparing the film to the original, the director stated that “there is the same kind of passion” for Beetlejuice 2, and that the plot, which stars Wednesday’s Jenna Ortega, is “a natural progression”. “I think there is the same kind of passion and that’s what is the kind of ignition behind all of this. We’ve been working with Neal Scanlan on incredible puppeteering and in-camera effects. And there’s just an element of that storytelling — It’s a natural progression. It’s a very, very personal intimate story for Tim [Burton].”

Apparently, the movie will have the typical fantastical element while staying true to its core theme of family and what has happened to it over the years. “Although it’s fantastical when you look at the explanation between the data and the nuances of everything, you will always find something that goes back to kind of something personal for him. So although it’s a fantastical story, it, again, at the heart of it [is] a brilliant, warm family story. It is the story of a family and how it’s progressed over for 30 years. And I think that’s always the basis of a great story,” elaborated Beetlejuice 2’s DP.
