Kevin De Bruyne suffered a fracture of the most and an orbital fracture to his left eye socket in Manchester City’s 1-0 defeat against Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League final on Saturday.
The Belgium midfielder had to go to the hospital after the collision with Rüdiger just before the hour mark in Porto but was discharged from there on that day only but he would have to wait regarding how the injury heals before the Euro 2020 that will be starting next month. Roberto Martinez criticised Rüdiger over his reckless tackle, he said that Rüdiger is very lucky that he didn’t get booked for that challenge. When you look at the replay there was no clash of heads and he’s properly leaving the shoulder against Kevin. Rüdiger was also holding his head like he was also injured like he was trying to hide something from the officials. He said that it was too reckless and excessive force was used on that challenge and it should have been a red card for the German.
De Bruyne stayed there to watch the match with a swelled eye after getting treated and was substituted by Gabriel Jesus but that couldn’t save the day for Manchester City. His chances of participating in the upcoming tournament are very slim now as the injury takes few weeks to heal and De Bruyne is one of the most important parts of the Belgium squad.
