The Kiwi pacer Neil Wagner has shared this thought that he feels the World Test Championship (WTC) final would just be like playing the finals of the World Cup. Both teams New Zealand and India will play in the final of WTC which is beginning on June 18 at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. Just a few days before the giant event, the Blackcaps will also play a two-match Test series against World Champions England which is beginning on the 2nd of June at Lord’s.
As per ESPNcricinfo Wagner said that it does look like a World Cup final for him. The biggest disappointment which he guessed was that in his career he had never really played a white-ball game for New Zealand or never been able to crack into the T20I or the ODIs. That ship has probably sailed now and he doesn’t think that opportunity will ever come.
He further added that for him it is about putting all his focus and energy into Test cricket and to play in a World Test Championship (WTC) final is like a World Cup for him. He knows this final is the first and there isn’t a lot of history around it though, it is the start of something that’s pretty big. To play in a one-off Test final against India which is one of the best team in the world and if not the best team in the world, India is the team that is able to test themselves against the best on the highest and biggest stage and that’s what it is about.
