Agent Silvano Martina confirmed Gianluigi Buffon is considering a return to Parma this summer. “I’ll see him this week to talk about the future,” his agent said
Buffon confirmed in May that he leaves Juventus this summer and the rumours regarding the veteran’s future started immediately. Barcelona along with a few other Spanish clubs were rumoured to bring him in as a second choice goalkeeper. However the 43-year old former Italian international has made public his intentions of playing as the first-choice goalkeeper at his future club.
Buffon played an important part in the season when the Bianconeri picked up the Coppa Italia in 2020-21, but Juventus finished fourth in Serie A and Andrea Pirlo was sacked after the campaign. He put in a number of amazing shot-stopping performances which suggested that the veteran goalkeeper still has what takes to be at the top of the game. After announcing his intention to leave Juventus at the end of the campaign, Buffon was linked to several clubs outside Italy but reports suggest that his former club Parma are in pole position to sign the Italian goalkeeper.
The 43-year-old returned to Juventus after one season with Paris Saint-Germain in 2018-19 and has spent two years as back-up to Wojciech Szczesny at the Allianz Stadium.
The Italian legend began his professional career with Parma in 1995 and spent six years with the club before joining Juventus in 2001. Buffon will play in Serie B for the first time since playing for Juventus in the second division during the 2006-07 campaign.
