Centre is likely to receive ₹15,000 crore from Air India sale

The Centre is expected to get around ₹15,000 crores from the sale of its stake in flag carrier airline Air India, its auxiliary Air India Express, and AISATS.

Potential buyers are attributing zero incentive to the value of the debt suppressed organization, Business Standard reported. The Tata Group is the leading contender to acquire Air India.

“The suitors’ plans revolved around doing sale and leaseback of Air India’s owned aircraft and earn liquidity. But with the pandemic, the new owner may not require those aircraft or good value for those in the lease market,” a banker told Business Standard.

This disinvestment process is an attempt to privatize Air India in 2021-22. The current debt of Air India is calculated over €4.38 billion. (₹38,366 crores)
