Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain in race to sign Inter Milan’s Achraf Hakimi

Chelsea have made a bid for Inter Milan right-back Achraf Hakimi, impacting PSG’s efforts to sign the player.

Chelsea have matched Paris Saint-Germain’s £56.1m (€60m) offer for Inter Milan wing-back Achraf Hakimi. Inter might be inclined to deal with Chelsea due to their interest in Chelsea players Emerson Palmieri and Andreas Christensen. Inter would like Palmieri on loan to assess the player’s situation and ability while Chelsea would prefer the move to be permanent.

Chelsea’s offer for Hakimi appears still to be some way short of Inter’s asking price. They value the Morocco full-back at £68.8m (€80m). They have matched PSG’S bid for the Moroccan international even though PSG were first to enter negotiations with the Italian club and Hakimi was close to completing a move to the French giants. It appears as if in a few days, Chelsea has tried to hijack the bid in order to land the services of the Moroccan right back.

Chelsea already have Reece James and Cesar Azpilicueta in the right-back/right wing-back position but newly appointed manager Thomas Tuchel aims to strengthen this position as Hakimi is comfortable playing multiple positions on the right side. Plans are also being made to convert Reece James into a right centre back while Azpilicueta is phased out over the next two years.

Hakimi was signed by Inter from Real Madrid last summer for a fee of around £40m. He established himself on loan at Borussia Dortmund for two seasons and performed spectacularly at the European level. Last season, Hakimi scored 7 goals and racked up 10 assists in Serie A as inter Milan won the top-flight title in Italian football.
