As per a report, China has given more than 100 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine in just a span of five days and hope to inoculate 80% of it’s population which vaguely comes to 1.4 billion by the end of the year. Around 704 doses of the vaccine has already been given by the country as of Wednesday among which nearly half were given just in the month of May.
Out of the 1.9 billion doses distributed globally, China roughly comes to a third of the figure, according to a report by Our World in Data. As per the seven day average rolling of the organization, China is giving around 19 million doses per day as its average, while on the other hand, the United States with just a quarter population that of China was able to provide around 3.4 million shots per day in April when its vaccination drive was at full swing.
Around 40% of the Chinese population has been vaccinated with at least one dose and the government aims to vaccinate that population completely by the end of the month as per a statement by Zhong Nanshan, the head of a group of experts attached to the National Health Commission and a prominent government doctor.
Chinese manufacturers are least likely to have problems with scale, even when there are distribution issues, as per analysts and those who have worked in the industry. The production for Sinovac and Sinopharm, which is the majority of the vaccines distributed in China, has gone aggressive by building brand new factories and repurposing existing ones for Covid-19.
