‘Cristiano Ronaldo is nowhere near Lionel Messi’s level!’: Jamie Carragher claims he’s settled GOAT debate

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are often regarded as two of the best footballers of all time. For more than 15 years, the duo has ruled Europe, winning several domestic and Champions League titles. Messi is presently playing for David Beckham’s Inter Miami in Major League Soccer. Meanwhile, Ronaldo is a player of the Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr.

The FIFA World Cup, which Messi won last year, is one of the awards missing from Ronaldo’s trophy cabinet. The Barcelona legend led Argentina to win against France in the 2022 FIFA World Cup final in Qatar. Messi was named Best Player of the Tournament and the tournament’s second-highest goal-scorer, behind Kylian Mbappe.

Former Liverpool and England defender Jamie Carragher joined the Ronaldo-Messi debate on CBS Sports and made a big statement. He said, “It was never a debate! (Cristiano) Ronaldo was nowhere near the level of (Lionel) Messi. Ronaldo was one of the greatest goalscorers of all time, Messi is the greatest in history of all time. It’s not even close. Just because Ronaldo scored goals, Messi scored goals and was an unbelievable player. I don’t even think it’s close.”

Carragher also said that despite criticizing Messi in the past, he never had any bias towards him and the Argentine replied to him on Instagram by calling him a donkey.
