Cyclone Fengal to cross TN-Puducherry coasts on Saturday

At 2:30 pm on Friday, the meteorological system over the southwest Bay of Bengal strengthened into a cyclone, which the IMD called Fengal, pronounced Feinjal.

On Saturday afternoon (November 30), it is expected to continue its northwestward movement and approach the north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry beaches between Karaikal and Mamallapuram near Puducherry as a cyclonic storm with winds of 70–80 kmph with gusts up to 90 kmph. Over Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengelpet, Kancheepuram, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Cuddalore districts, and Puducherry, the storm is predicted to bring exceptionally heavy rainfall in one or two locations on Saturday.

A red alert has been issued for each of these districts. Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, and Karaikal districts are on an orange warning because of the possibility of heavy to extremely heavy rain in certain areas.

Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Namakkal, Trichy, Pudukottai, and Karur districts are on a yellow warning because to the possibility of severe rainfall in certain areas. On December 1, the system can move inland and deliver rain to interior districts. The districts of Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Dindigul, and Erode are under an orange warning due to extremely high rainfall.

Due to excessive rainfall, the districts of Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Namakkal, Karur, Theni, and Madurai have been given a yellow. Due to significant rains on December 2 and 3, the districts of Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Theni, Dindigul, and Erode have been placed under a yellow alert.
