David Schwimmer Recalls Serving Rod Stewart Divorce Papers Before Fame

David Schwimmer shared a funny and slightly awkward memory during his appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, where he recalled once serving Grammy winner Rod Stewart divorce papers. Schwimmer, before becoming famous as Ross Geller on Friends, worked as a process server—a job he humorously referred to as one of his “banana jobs.” He explained how, at around 18 years old, he was tasked by his mom, a divorce lawyer, to deliver documents to people in various situations, including Rod Stewart.

Schwimmer admitted that he’s never run into Stewart since that incident, and he’s relieved about it. “Thank goodness I’ve never run into him since,” Schwimmer said, adding, “I don’t even know if he knows. I don’t think he knows.” Colbert jokingly pointed out that Stewart knows now, and playfully warned Schwimmer to watch out for potential future confrontations.

Schwimmer didn’t specify which wife Stewart was divorcing at the time, but Stewart’s first marriage to Alana Stewart ended in 1984, making her the likely person Schwimmer served the papers for. Rod Stewart has since married multiple times, with his current wife being Penny Lancaster, whom he married in 2007.

Schwimmer’s lighthearted story about his pre-acting career provides a humorous glimpse into the less glamorous side of the actor’s early days before achieving fame.
