David Warner gets standing ovation from SCG crowd after fifty in farewell Test innings as Australia seal series over Pakistan

David Warner ended his remarkable Test career with a magnificent 57-run  knock, contributing greatly to Australia’s eight-wicket win against Pakistan in the third Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). In a fairytale farewell, the great opener bid adieu to the longest format of the game, walking off the SCG field to an amazing ovation from the audience.

Warner’s innings ended with a lbw dismissal by Sajid Khan as Australia was just 11 runs away from sealing a clean sweep of the three-match Test series. As Warner walked off the field, the SCG crowd gave him a standing ovation, recognizing his incredible career. Warner leaves a legacy in Test cricket with 8786 runs at an average of 44.59, including 26 hundreds, three double tons and 36 fifties.

Usman Khawaja was the only other batsman to be dismissed in Australia’s chase of Pakistan’s 130-run total, falling lbw to Khan, without scoring. Marnus Labuschagne scored 62, and Steve Smith (4) was at the crease when Australia won.

Pakistan set the stage with 313 and 115, while Australia replied with 299 and 130-2. Josh Hazlewood’s brilliant 4-16 performance on Day 3 had already destroyed Pakistan’s team, giving them little chance to fight back. Despite Pakistan’s efforts, which included a 42-run eighth-wicket partnership between Mohammad Rizwan (28) and Aamir Jamal (18), Nathan Lyon’s brilliance at leg slip hastened their collapse, as he finished with 3-36.
