With India preparing to send a second-string squad to Sri Lanka for the next white-ball trip, the major issue is who will lead India in the absence of Virat Kohli. While two candidates – Shikhar Dhawan and Hardik Pandya – have emerged as frontrunners for the role, no decision has been made. Deepak Chahar, a fast bowler who is scheduled to join the tour, believes Dhawan should be named captain.
“Shikhar bhai would be a good choice for captain. He has been playing for a long time and has a good experience. For me, a senior player should be made the captain. Because players see that player as a senior and respect him and obey him with honesty. Players should respect their captain. He (Dhawan) will be a good choice,” Chahar stated.
Chahar is all ready for his visit to Sri Lanka. He even bowled brilliantly in the Indian Premier League and is looking forward to playing in Sri Lanka since he has a fantastic touch. Experience, according to Chahar, instills a great deal of confidence. He feels he now has the experience and intends to put up a good display in Sri Lanka and is certain that he would put up a terrific performance with the ball during the Lankan trip.
Chahar has been a steady performer in white-ball cricket and is a valuable asset for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL with the new ball. Chahar has always shown gratitude to Dhoni for his development as a cricketer.
