Actress Delnaaz Irani has opened up about her decision to part ways with ex-husband Rajev Paul, more than a decade after their separation. In a recent interview, she shared that their relationship had deteriorated to a point where they lost mutual respect, leading to their eventual divorce in 2012.
Delnaaz and Rajev met on the sets of Parivartan in 1993 and tied the knot in 1998. However, after 12 years of marriage, they separated in 2010, finalizing their divorce two years later. Reflecting on this phase, Delnaaz revealed, “I was out of the marriage way before I actually got out of the marriage. Rajev keeps denying it, but even he had drifted apart.”
Addressing speculation that having a child together might have prevented their split, she said, “People tell me that if we had a child, I wouldn’t have left him, but all that is hypothetical.” She also faced criticism for ignoring Rajev during Bigg Boss 6, where they participated post-divorce.
Delnaaz, who got married at 22, admitted their struggles as a young couple and how they eventually grew apart. She emphasized that respect is crucial in a relationship and that she chose to move on rather than live an unhappy life.
Now, Delnaaz has found love again with DJ Percy Karkaria. On her 50th birthday, Percy proposed to her not for marriage, but to grow old together, a path they are happily exploring.
