
Spanish footballer Diego Llorente has tested positive for COVID-19 as the Spanish FA had confirmed that both the captain Sergio Busquets and Diego are set to miss Spain’s opening Euro 2020 fixture against Sweden due to both of them have tested positive on Monday. Diego becomes the second player after captain Sergio tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of Euro 2020.
The Spanish FA (RFEF) said that Diego returned with a Covid positive test report on Tuesday and was immediately put under isolation just two days after captain Sergio had to leave the camp after testing positive. The RFEF further said that no other player has tested positive for COVID-19. Diego’s positive result came out after Spain’s under 21 squads defeated Lithuania by 4-0 on Tuesday in Madrid in a match that was supposed to be played by the senior team as its final warm-up before the team’s opening Euro 2020 match against Sweden on Monday in Seville.
Spain’s sports minister Jose Manuel said that the squad will get a covid vaccine on Wednesday and they are making an exception because Spain represents the country in top-level competition. On the other hand, two Sweden players – Juventus winger Dejan Kulusevski and Bologna midfielder Mattias Svanberg have tested positive for COVID-19. The Euros will begin on Friday when Italy will host Turkey in Rome.
