Euro 2020: Italy thrash Turkey 3-0 in the opening match of the tournament

Italy and Turkey played the first match of Euro 2020 in Stadio Olimpico in Rome after the tournament was postponed by one year due to the pandemic. The tournament started with a great prematch performance by artists in the opening ceremony that hyped up the players and the fans in the stadium.

The game started with both teams attacking but Italy was very dominant in the first half as they were finding space down the wing through Immobile and Insigne, and constantly pressing the Turkish defence.

Due to this pressure, turkey gave away its own goal at the starting of the second half through Merih Demiral, after that goal, the Italians became more dominant and scored another goal through Ciro Immobile who finished the goal past the goalkeeper with confidence. The third goal came after the Turkish keeper Çakir made a fatal mistake and passed the ball to an Italian player, and the goal was scored by Lorenzo Insigne who punished him for his mistake in the 79th minute of the game.

The stats depict the fact how Italy dominated Turkey in the game, Italy took 24 shots in comparison to 3 shots by turkey. The possession was 64% in favour of the Italians and they took 8 shots on goal out of which 2 were converted while Turkey couldn’t manage to take a single shot on goal.
