FC Barcelona has officially announced the signing of Memphis Depay on a free transfer

Spanish giant, FC Barcelona officially announced the signing of Netherlands forward Memphis Depay on a free transfer after Lyon contract expires. The player was also rumoured with Juventus and Chelsea.

Depay had before worked under Ronald Koeman who is the recent manager of Barca when he was in charge of the Netherlands between 2018 and 2020. He had previously revealed that he wants to play under Koeman again. Laliga club confirmed the reunion with the official announcement of an agreement with the player.

“Memphis Depay, Barca’s fourth signing. The player will sign a contract until the end of the 2020/23 season. FC Barcelona and Memphis Depay have reached an agreement for the player to join the club once his contract with Olympique Lyonnais is at the end”, stated the club via their site and social media handles.

The 27-year-old scored his first goal of the Euro 2020 tournament through a penalty against Australia with a 2-0 win for his side. He scored 22 goals in 40 games with 12 assists for Lyon in the 2020-21 season.

Depay attracted abroad attention with his performances in the Dutch championship which was eventually secured by Manchester United and they got him at the Old Trafford under Louis Van Gaal for a season and a half before he was transferred for Olympique Lyonnais in 2017 and now will play for the Blaugranians.
