Barcelona president Joan Laporta has revealed his plans to give a tribute to club star Lionel Messi, despite the fact that he has joined Inter Miami this transfer window. Messi was heavily linked to a return to Barcelona after his contract with PSG expired, although the club shared their desire to bring their best player back but did not give him an official contract. Messi chose not to wait any longer and joined Inter Miami because he did not want to experience the fate of 2021 when Barcelona failed to offer him a contract extension owing to La Liga’s FFP rules.
In the meantime, Joan Laporta and Leo’s father, Jorge Messi, who is also his agent, are planning a magnificent tribute to the Argentine for his achievements at Barcelona.
Laporta has already indicated that Messi will come to Barcelona for a big tribute on the opening day of Camp Nou, which is currently being rebuilt.
“Barca will always be his home. I met with them to make a tribute. The opening day of the Spotify Camp Nou would be an excellent date,” Laporta told TV3.
It is quite doubtful that Camp Nou will be completed this season, which means Messi will have to wait another season for his well-deserved tribute and a proper farewell at Barcelona, which he did not have in 2021 because of COVID-19 protocols at that time.
