A special re-release of the highly acclaimed and National Award-winning film Shahid, directed by renowned filmmaker Hansal Mehta, is returning to theatres. The date of the re-release is February 26, 2025.
The film was first released in 2012 and is a biographical drama that tells the story of Shahid Azmi, a human rights activist and lawyer who was terribleally killed in 2010. Recent rumours indicate that the producers are thinking of a more extensive re-release in May 2025 to commemorate its tenth anniversary.
The film, which starred Rajkummar Rao in the lead role, was widely praised for its powerful performances and gripping narrative. Rao was given the National Film Award for Best Actor, and Hansal Mehta was given the National Film Award for Best Director. The film received overwhelmingly good reviews from critics when it was released on October 18, 2013.
To mark its tenth anniversary, a wider re-release is planned for May, along with a special showing of Shahid on February 26, 2025. The Versova Homage Society is in charge of organising the event. Producer Sunil Bohra and director Hansal Mehta are reportedly excited about the movie’s re-release. Sunil Bohra informed ETimes that the Versova Homage Society has arranged a special screening.
He also disclosed that a wider re-release of the movie, currently slated for May, is being worked on by him and Hansal Mehta. He was grateful to Mehta for providing him with the chance to produce the movie. With more information to be released soon, the re-release is meant to introduce the movie to a new generation of audiences.
Tigmanshu Dhulia, the writer and director, will also lead an interactive session with the cast during the special showing. Rao’s next project will be Maalik. Pulkit is the director of the action-packed gangster drama. The movie is expected to re-release on June 20, 2025 in theatres.
