HC order allowing Central Vista work to go on, stays uninterrupted by the SC

The decision taken by Delhi High Court on 31st May allowing the Central Vista project work in the national capital to go on was refused to be stayed by the Supreme Court on Tuesday.

Public interest litigation which was filed seeking to stop the construction activity of the Central Vista project was been dismissed by the high court terming it to be motivated along with imposing ₹1 lakh cost on Anya Malhotra and historian Sohail Hashmi who were the petitioners by the Delhi high court mentioning that the project was of national importance.

Stating that research about such similar public projects with construction going on was not done by the petitioners who were selectively targeting the Central Vista project alone, the Supreme Court said that the high court was right in its conclusions on the same.

The public interest litigation should not have been pursued by the petitioners before the high court further, as stated by the three-judge bench of the top court which was led by Justice AM Khanwilker.

A new residential complex housing the Prime Minister and the vice president along with constructing a new triangular Parliament house as well as several new office buildings and a central secretariate for accommodating ministry offices shall be constructed in the Central Vista project. As part of the project, the three kilometre-long Rajpath from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate shall also be revamped.
