On Sunday, the Indian Meteorological Department forecast mild to moderate rainfall in a few locations in Tamil Nadu and Chennai. A low-pressure region forming over the southwest Bay of Bengal, off the coast of Sri Lanka, is what causes the rainfall forecast.
The IMD warning states that isolated areas across Villupuram, Chennai, Chengalpattu, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur in Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry & Karaikal area are expected to experience heavy to extremely heavy rainfall. A few locations in the districts of Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Villuppuram, Puducherry, Thoothukudi, and Kanyakumari may experience heavy to extremely heavy rainfall tomorrow, according to IMD.
Pudukkottai, Thiruvarur, and Mayiladuthurai in Tamil Nadu are under an orange alert for today. However, a yellow alert has been issued in a number of locations, including Thoothukudi, Madurai, Nilgiris, and Sivagangai. The Met Centre Thiruvananthapuram warning states that a yellow alert has been issued for the entire state of Kerala.
Chennai and other regions of Tamil Nadu were battered by heavy rain last month. According to PTI, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin examined the state’s infrastructure development and the restoration projects being carried out in the south Chennai region to enhance the waterways.
According to the warning, on November 15, a low-pressure region developed over the Southwest Bay of Bengal due to upper air cyclonic circulation. This low-pressure area is probably the cause of the heavy rainfall in these areas.
Additionally, it predicted that squally weather with wind speeds of 35 to 45 kmph will be common along and off the coast of Tamil Nadu. Additionally, fisherman are cautioned from going to marine areas on these days.
