ICC cancels sub-regional European qualifiers for T20 World Cup due to rise in COVID-19

The sub-regional European qualifiers for the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia were scheduled to be played from June 13 to July 10 in Finland and Belgium. But on Friday ICC cancelled the three T20 World Cup sub-regional European qualifiers games, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. As of this Italy, Belgium and Finland from the Europe sub regional qualifiers A, B and C will determine their places in the ICC T20I.

ICC head of events, Chris Tetley said that, “We have unfortunately had to cancel the three T20 World Cup Sub Regional Europe Qualifiers due to start next month, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, due to the restrictions and the short timelines that the European season provides to allow us to progress with the next step in the pathway, there has been no other option than to cancel.”
He further added to his statement that “I would like to thank Cricket Finland, the Belgium Cricket Federation and all participating Members for their collective support in coming to this decision.”
