Cricket Argentina’s online Spanish course programme which found takers across the region, received the Development Initiative of the Year in the ICC Development Awards.
Argentina Cricket had always wanted more coaches, umpires and scorers to help them to improve the game. However due to Covid everyone was confined to their homes, and Argentina Cricket found an opportunity to take online courses to reach new people to pick up new skills and Sian Kelly Argentina’s women’s development manager was put on this job.
The session started only with 15 participants and was also restricted to Spanish speaking countries. Eventually they grew to 17 new courses covering almost 257 participants including 105 women.
They held courses on Umpiring Level 1 and 2 and also on Coaching Levels which were very helpful for the players to understand the proper way of teaching the sport.
It reached seven countries in the region and has now won the recognition at the ICC Global Development Awards 2020 in the category Development Initiative of the Year.
