Members of the Indian-American community gathered outside Indian Consulate in San Francisco to stage protest to showcase their support for India and its diplomats. This comes after the pro-Khalistan supporters attempted a arson attack at the diplomatic facility.
Indian Americans gathered outside the establishment could be heard chanting slogans such as ‘Vande Mataram’, ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’, and ‘Akhand Bharat Zindabad’. The group was also carrying banners which read messages like ‘Khalistani Attack on the Consulate is an act of terrorism’ and ‘We stand with our diplomats’.
For those unaware, on July 2, a group of pro-Khalistani supporters had ignited the Indian Consulate in the city. Fortunately, no major damage was reported as the San Francisco Fire Department officials were quick to act on it.
The Local San Francisco police department, special diplomatic security personnel, and state and federal authorities were notified and immediately began investigating the incident.
Meanwhile, the co-chairs of the India Caucus condemned such elements, by saying that the right to free speech is not a license to provoke violence.
