After more than a decade away from the spotlight, Imran Khan is stepping back into acting with a project that reflects his signature style rather than current industry trends. In a recent conversation, the actor addressed the growing belief that only large-scale, spectacle-driven films can succeed in theatres today.
Imran, who will next be seen in Adhoore Hum Adhoore Tum alongside Bhumi Pednekar, made it clear that creative choices should not be dictated by box office pressures. He pointed out that the film industry has increasingly begun treating collections like a competitive metric, with constant tracking and analysis overshadowing the art of storytelling. For him, such numbers hold little personal significance.
Reflecting on the post-pandemic shift in viewing habits, Imran acknowledged that audiences across the globe are gravitating more towards grand, theatrical spectacles. He noted that while this trend is evident, it ultimately reflects audience preference, and there is no inherent issue with it.
However, his upcoming project takes a different route. Rather than chasing mass appeal or high-octane narratives, the film focuses on a softer, relationship-driven story. Imran emphasised that the makers were aware from the beginning that the narrative may not align with typical big-screen expectations, which is why it has been developed as a digital release.
Marking his return after 11 years, Imran’s choice signals a conscious effort to stay rooted in the genre that defined his early career, even as the industry continues to evolve around spectacle-heavy storytelling.
