Indian Railways: First ever AC 3 tier economy class rolled out

Indian Railways on Wednesday rolled out its first-ever air-conditioned three-tier economy class coach. This coach was rolled out from rail coach factory (RCF) Kapurthala to research, design and standards organization (RDSO) Lucknow for the upcoming trial.

The coach has improved seats and berths, foldable snack tables, injury-free spaces, and holders for water bottles, mobile phones, and magazines. Each birth has an individual reading light and mobile charging points.

The number of berths have been increased from 72 to 83 with more headspace and improved ladder design for the middle and upper berths. With a wide toilet door entryway, an additional disabled friendly toilet entry door has been added.

“This new 3-tier air-conditioned economy class coach is a symbol of aspirational India bringing AC travel to a larger number of people and enhancing the capacity of our express trains,” the railway ministry said in a statement.
