Shortly after takeoff, a “mini explosion” in the left engine of an IndiGo flight from Kolkata to Bengaluru forced the pilots to make an emergency landing, raising serious safety concerns. Minutes after the aircraft, carrying 174 passengers, departed from Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata, the event happened.
Officials claim that the explosion caused an engine to fail, forcing the crew to immediately carry out emergency procedures and land back at the airport. All passengers were safely evacuated without any injuries because of the prompt response.
To ascertain the origin of the fire, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has opened an investigation into the occurrence. The passengers were guaranteed to continue their journey to Bengaluru later that day by means of an alternative aircraft arrangement.
This emergency raises new issues regarding aeroplane safety and the efficacy of existing processes. As the DGCA’s investigation continues, more information will become available.
