The Indian Premier League (IPL) has gone a long way since its beginning in 2008. The IPL is presently regarded as the wealthiest and most well-known T20 league in the world. The final of the inaugural season of the T20 Championship was played exactly 13 years ago, on June 1, 2008, between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Both Yusuf Pathan and Shane Warne got really nostalgic about their historical win and shared their thoughts on twitter reminiscing the game. Rajasthan Royals dominated the 2008 campaign under Shane Warne, winning 11 of their 14 league games. The Royals’ heroics continued in the finals, when they won by three wickets against CSK.

The match began with Warne winning the toss and prompting MS Dhoni and his team to declare the total. When given the opportunity to bat first, CSK performed admirably with the bat, amassing a total of 163 runs. Suresh Raina scored the most runs for the Super Kings, scoring 43 off 30 deliveries, followed by Parthiv Patel’s 38 runs. Yusuf Pathan was RR’s best bowler, taking three key wickets in the form of Parthiv, Vidyut Sivaramakrishnan and Albie Morkel.

Rajasthan Royals, who were chasing 164, got off to a shaky start, losing their first three wickets in seven overs and falling to 42 for three. CSK were regarded as the front-runners to win. Pathan and Shane Watson, on the other hand, transformed the game’s whole dynamics by scripting a magnificent 65-run partnership. Pathan went all-out with the willow, while Watson had a brief but successful cameo of 28 runs.

The all-rounder slammed a brilliant 56-run knock off only 39 balls. At a strike rate of 143.59, he hit three boundaries and four maximums. Pathan and Watson’s heroic performance helped RR make history by winning the first IPL final off the last delivery.
