IPL 2021: Dhawan’s inning guides Delhi to comfortable 7 wicket win over Punjab Kings

Shikhar Dhawan led the 167-run chase from the start as Delhi Capitals cruised to a seven-wicket victory over Punjab Kings in Ahmedabad. Dhawan hit an unbeaten 69 off 47 balls, his third half-century of the season, as Delhi won with 14 balls to spare. The victory also propelled Delhi to the top of the points table, where they now have six wins in eight games.

Punjab’s bowling was not at its best. They failed to take any wickets in the power play, and in order to win a defending total like this, they needed early wickets, which they did not get. Brar struck in his first ball, sending Shaw back to the pavilion, but they needed two quick wickets after that. That did not occur, and the outcome was far too simple.

Mayank’s top knock received little support from the other end throughout, but the skipper played a tough inning to help his team put up a fight. They did, however, require a couple of quick wickets in the second innings. That did not occur, and the outcome was far too simple. Meredith and Jordan each picked a wicket, but they arrived late and were unable to assist PBKS to victory.

DC are now on the first position of the table. They play KKR next on 8th May. RCB and CSK both have a game in hand, if they win, then they draw level with DC on points.
