IPL 2021: Eoin Morgan highlighted 5 mistakes that cost them against CSK

On Wednesday, Kolkata Knight Riders went head to head against Chennai Super Kings to a nail-biting end, which eventually favoured the CSK in the end. Chennai registered its third comprehensive win and moved to the first position in the points table.

Kolkata was already dominated by CSK Batters Faf du Plessis (95*) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (64) scoring a giant partnership of 115 runs, helping CSK reach a massive total of 220.

However, KKR skipper blamed their poor start in the powerplay proved to be conclusive of the team. KKR lost their top order in the powerplay itself, leaving the team on a critical score of 31/5.  Shubhman Gill was dismissed on the first delivery for a duck, while Nitish Rana (9), Rahul Tripathi (8), Eoin Morgan (7) and Sunil Narine (4) were sent back to the pavilion for a string of low scores.

“When you are 31/5, you are actually worried about the result. You are trying to find a solution to get yourself in a winning position. Dinesh Karthik and Andre Russell did that. The partnership turned momentum our way, considering the bad start we had. We were up with where CSK were. Having made those five mistakes cost us”. Morgan said.

Morgan also appreciated Pat Cummins for his incredible performance and making KKR stand in a fight chance till the end. He also acknowledged how good Chennai bowlers were during the start of the match. Especially Deepak Chahar, who bowled exceptionally well getting four early wickets for the team.

“It is different circumstances in different conditions. Chennai was a different game. Our bowling was good barring the last game. Three nobles and the fielding performance did not aid us. We ended up chasing 200 instead of 180 which was gettable. Looking at this match and the way how both sides batted, I think the bowlers did a decent job”. Morgan Concluded.

Kolkata Knight Riders currently stand in the bottom three of the points table. They will face Rajasthan Royals ahead of the Vivo IPL 2021 on April 24 at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
