At least eight people were killed when the Bengaluru Express struck them in the Jalgaon district of Maharashtra, according to railway officials. The tragedy happened at 4:19 p.m. on Wednesday near the Paranda railway station when passengers on the Pushpak Express, which was travelling from Lucknow to Mumbai, hurriedly jumped onto the tracks in an attempt to escape in fear of a possible fire after smoke from the train’s wheels.
The abrupt movement of passengers onto the tracks set the stage for the subsequent catastrophe. The Bengaluru Express, which was moving in the other direction, struck the people who had leaped onto the tracks at that same moment.
“Some passengers of the Pushpak Express stepped down, and were hit by the oncoming Karnataka Express,” explained Swapnil Nila, the principal spokesperson for Central Railway. In addition to expressing sorrow over the Pushpak train disaster, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has mandated that the injured receive proper medical care.
