Jesse Lingard ‘offers himself to Barcelona’ in optimistic bid to revive football career; Report

Jesse Lingard is eager to take advantage of the January transfer window to revive his football career. The former Manchester United attacker has yet to sign a contract since being released by Nottingham Forest in June of last year. Nonetheless, he remained engaged with the sport. Although having no professional agreements, the English international attended a few training sessions with his former club West Ham United and Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq at the start of the season. Lingard is apparently interested in staying in Europe and has offered his services to defending La Liga  champions Barcelona.

Sport reports that Lingard feels the Spanish club is “an excellent springboard” to revive his failing career and that Barcelona manager Xavi is already aware of the situation. According to the Spanish outlet, the footballer-turned-manager has been advised that Lingard may be an affordable mid-season signing to boost the attack. Linger, who is now available in the transfer market, is estimated to cost less than €2 million per week until the end of the season.

Barcelona’s poor financial l condition has led them to make several cheap signings in recent years. Since Xavi currently has a lot of resources for the attack, it is unlikely that he will be interested in signing Lingard.

Regarding Jesse Lingard’s future, the 31-year-old has had multiple offers from different parts of the world, including North America, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia. Al-Ettifaq, led by Steven Gerrard, was one of the Saudi Pro League clubs that showed interest in Lingard. However, the footballer does not appear to be in a hurry to leave Europe.
