John Wick 4: Lawrence Fishburne to return as The Bowery King

The upcoming sequel of the John Wick franchise will be witnessing a mini-Matrix reunion with Fishburne returning alongside Reeves

Lawrence Fishburne has confirmed that he will be reprising his role as Watanabe in the fourth installment of the hugely successful John Wick franchise. In an interview with Collider, the actor confirmed that he has read the script and that it’s “really, really cool”, and implied that the film will be set in the same world of the franchise. He also revealed that the fourth installment will be much deeper than the previous outings, and also that the upcoming film will include a character that goes by the name of Mr. Watanabe, who is going to be the heart and soul of the movie.

The film, which is being produced by Lionsgate, had recently found the addition of newcomers including Shamier Anderson, Donnie Yen, Rina Sawayama in her debut feature film, and Bill Skarsgard. However, fans of the franchise are now thrilled with the addition of Fishburne, which will be a mini-Matrix reunion of sorts for Keanu Reeves, who plays the titular character, and Fishburne.

The film, directed by Chad Stahelski, is currently set for a worldwide release on 27 May 2022. Amidst the delays in the production due to the ongoing Covid – 19 pandemic, the movie is currently in the production stage and is reportedly set in the locales of Japan, New York City, and Berlin. In the same interview by Collider, Fishburne also confirmed that he will be going to Berlin in a couple of months to shoot for the same. Details on the plot and character roster of the fourth installment are currently kept under wraps by the studio.
