AS Roma, an Italian football club, fired manager Jose Mourinho on Tuesday. Mourinho’s sacking was announced days after Roma suffered a 3-1 loss against AC Milan in Serie A. In the Serie A standings, ninth-placed Roma is presently 22 points behind leaders Inter Milan. Roma’s contract with the ‘Special One’ was set to end later this year in June.
After being fired, an upset and tearful Mourinho was seen leaving the club in a car through a crowd of supporters gathered at the training ground.

Jose Mourinho wrote an emotional post on Instagram. The 60-year-old shared a video that wonderfully captured his time at Roma. He penned, “Sudore, sangue, lacrime, allegria, tristezza, amoR, fratelli, storia, cuore, eternità, [Sweat, blood, tears, joy, sadness, love, brothers, history, heart, eternity].”
The current season has not been easy for Roma, with the team losing key players because of injuries and fitness concerns. Roma has four points from their past five league games and was eliminated from the Coppa Italia after a 1-0 loss against Lazio. Daniele De Rossi, Roma’s former footballer, will now lead the club.
“AS Roma are pleased to confirm that Daniele De Rossi has been appointed as head coach until 30 June 2024. After an 18-year playing career with AS Roma, De Rossi will return home as head coach, with his first game being the club’s upcoming Serie A match against Verona on Saturday evening at the Stadio Olimpico,” the Serie A outfit said in a statement.
