After much anticipation and delays, Kangana Ranaut’s ambitious project Emergency is finally slated to release on January 17, 2025. The film marks 50 years since the declaration of the Emergency in 1975, a period of intense political turmoil in India. Initially scheduled for a September release, the film faced hurdles with the censor board, which demanded 13 cuts before granting a U/A certification.
Ahead of its release, Kangana unveiled the second trailer, which has already garnered attention for its intense and hard-hitting narrative. Kangana, who not only directed the film but also portrays former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, has left audiences in awe with her transformation. Her voice and body language reflect a deep commitment to embodying the iconic leader.
The trailer provides a glimpse into key moments of the Emergency era, including Indira Gandhi’s controversial declaration as she asserts, “Main hi Cabinet hoon” and frames the event as a “war against the Kauravas.” The film promises to reveal untold aspects of this significant historical chapter.
Speaking about the film, Kangana said, “This story isn’t just about a controversial leader; it delves into themes that remain profoundly relevant today.” Releasing a week before Republic Day, the timing resonates with the resilience of the Indian Constitution.
The film features an ensemble cast, including Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Milind Soman, Mahima Choudhary, and the late Satish Kaushik in his final screen appearance. Emergency promises to be a cinematic experience worth watching.
