Kevin Bacon to play antagonist in Legendary’s ‘Toxic Avenger’ reboot

The actor will be joining Peter Dinklage, Jacob Tremblay, and Taylour Paige as the villain in the reboot of the 1984 movie

Actor Kevin Bacon has been cast as the villain in the new Toxic Avenger reboot that is being produced by Troma Entertainment, which had also produced the original 1984 hit low-budget action-comedy movie. Bacon will be joined by actors like Peter Dinklage, Jacob Tremblay, and Taylour Paige who are already on board for the project and is expected to begin production in June in Bulgaria. With Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz from Troma Entertainment serving as the producers and Macon Blair directing, the reboot is expected to be a contemporary re-imagining of the original Toxic Avenger movie.

According to reports by The Hollywood Reporter, the reboot of Toxic Avenger will be covering environmental themes and is expected to subvert the superhero genre in the route of another hit franchise Deadpool. The original film went on to be Troma Entertainment’s biggest hit, with the character becoming a mascot for the production company. The original movie was also expanded across three sequel movies – The Toxic Avenger Part II (1989), The Toxic Avenger Part III: The Last Temptation of Toxie (1989), Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV (2000), a musical production for stage, a cartoon TV series for children, and even a comic.

The reboot, which will have a script written by director Macon, follows the story of a struggling everyman who, when pushed into a vat of toxic waste, is transformed into a mutant freak, and his journey from shunned outcast to underdog hero while he races to save his child, his friends, and his community from the forces of corruption and greed.
