Kylian Mbappe and Neymar left out of PSG squad for opening game against Lorient

PSG, the reigning Ligue 1 champions, begin their title defence against Lorient on Sunday. As the new season begins, the biggest talking point in Paris remains the uncertainty surrounding the future of the country’s valued treasure, Kylian Mbappe.

The latest phase in the ongoing transfer saga involving the French World Cup champion saw the club drop the 24-year-old ahead of the team’s league opener.

Italian midfielder Marco Veratti has also been left out of the team that will face Lorient under the tutelage of Spanish tactician Luis Enrique, who will be in charge of his first Ligue 1 game as PSG manager.

PSG also chose to drop the French striker during their pre-season tour of Asia, as the market’s most wanted player trained with the reserves of the French capital city unit.

The Parisian club is at loggerheads with the French superstar after he refused to extend his contract with the French champions, with the wunderkind seeking a move to Real Madrid.

Neymar, the Brazilian star for PSG, is also expected to miss the league opener due to a viral syndrome. The 31-year-old South American star has also been linked with a move away from the Parisian club to pastures anew, however, a deal has yet to be completed and he remains a player of the club owned by the oil-rich Middle Eastern nation.
